CloudSecretary vs Smith.ai

CloudSecretary vs Smith.ai: the difference is who is on the call

Smith.ai sells three tiers — AI-first, hybrid and human — billed per call, with published entry pricing around $300 a month for 30 calls (checked September 2026). CloudSecretary answers every call with a person, in English and Spanish, from $49 a month. Smith.ai offers more automation and a larger integration set; CloudSecretary costs less per call and never routes a caller to software.

Both bill per call, so this one is comparable

Unlike most of this market, Smith.ai and CloudSecretary use the same unit, which makes the comparison unusually clean: divide the plan price by the included calls and look at the overage rate.

On their published pricing in September 2026 that put Smith.ai’s entry plan around $10 per call, with overage between $8.50 and $11.50. CloudSecretary’s plans run between $3.25 and $6.90 per call depending on volume.

The gap is real, and it’s the honest starting point for the rest of this page: the question is what the extra buys.

Where Smith.ai is the better choice

You want the AI tier and you want it deliberately. If your calls are genuinely repetitive — the same three questions, the same booking flow — an AI agent handles them at a lower cost and never sleeps. That’s a real product for a real situation, and dismissing it would be dishonest.

You need deep integrations. Their integration list is longer than ours and their product is built around routing call data into other systems. If that’s the requirement, start there.

You want one vendor across automation and humans. Being able to move a call type from AI to human inside the same account has operational value.

Where CloudSecretary wins

Every call gets a person. Not a tier you have to select and pay up for — the default. The calls that decide whether you get the customer are the ones that go off-script, and those are exactly the calls software handles worst.

Cost per call. Several times cheaper at comparable volumes on their published figures.

Bilingual by default. Same number, same receptionist, either language, every shift, no surcharge. This is where AI answering is weakest in practice: accented English, code-switching mid-sentence, a caller who starts in Spanish and finishes in English.

No surprise about who answered. Your caller never has to work out whether they’re talking to a person.

The honest version of the AI argument

AI answering isn’t a scam and it isn’t going away. It handles the routine call competently and gets cheaper every quarter.

What it still doesn’t do is judgment: hearing that a caller is upset and changing approach, noticing that the stated question isn’t the real one, handling a family member who isn’t the patient, knowing when to stop following the script. Those calls are a minority of your volume and a majority of your revenue.
