Legal answering service: the first call handled like it decides the case, because it does

A legal answering service answers a law firm's calls and runs new matter intake to the firm's script. CloudSecretary captures the facts, the jurisdiction and the names needed for a conflict check, escalates urgent calls to the attorney on call, and never gives legal advice or quotes fees. English and Spanish, 24/7/365.

  • Answered by people, in English and Spanish
  • One answered call, one price — booking and transfers included
  • Your first month free, no setup fee

Have us call you back

A person calls you back, not an autodialer. Usually within the hour.

We use your details to call you back, nothing else. See our privacy policy. We call, we don’t spam.

Answered by people, in two languages, on a plan that counts calls — not minutes.

  • A human on every call, day and night
  • English and Spanish on the same line
  • Your greeting, your script
  • Cancel or change your plan by email

Callers don't wait for a callback, they call the next firm

Someone who has just been in an accident, been served, or found out a deadline is running does not leave a voicemail and wait. They work down the search results until a person answers, and the firm they speak to first is usually the firm they meet.

Which means your intake isn’t competing on quality. It’s competing on availability, at hours when nobody is in the office — evenings, weekends, and the hour after the thing happened.

What we capture on a new matter call

Your questions, in your order. The set most firms use:

  • Name, phone, email and the best time to reach them
  • What happened, when, and where — in the caller’s own words, quoted
  • The jurisdiction that puts the matter in
  • The other parties involved, by name — so a conflict check can run before anyone calls back
  • Any deadline already running that the caller knows about
  • Whether they have counsel, or have spoken to another firm
  • Practice area and whether it’s within your criteria
  • How they found you

The names are the part that separates useful intake from a message. A conflict discovered on the first callback is a conversation nobody wants to have.

What we never say on your line

No legal advice, in any form — including the reassuring kind ("you’ll probably be fine," "that sounds like a strong case"). No opinion on the value of a matter. No fee quotes beyond what your firm publishes. No commitment that the firm will take the case. No comment on whether a deadline is a problem.

Callers push hard on all of these, especially frightened ones. Holding the line politely, at 11 p.m., without losing the caller, is the skill this vertical is actually about.

Screening what doesn't fit

Most firms don’t want every call. You define practice areas, jurisdictions, matter types and thresholds, and calls clearly outside them get a courteous close and a written record — no attorney time spent discovering it.

Calls that do fit get flagged, and if your rules say so, transferred live while the caller is still motivated. Legal intake in detail.

Urgent, in a legal sense

Urgency in a firm is rarely about danger and usually about a clock: an arrest, a hearing tomorrow, a statute about to run, a client already in custody, a business matter with a filing deadline. You write that list; we follow it and escalate down your on-call ladder, logging every attempt.

Spanish-speaking intake

Intake in a second language, about something stressful, is where most bilingual arrangements break. We handle Spanish on the same number and in the same seat, with the same questions and the same never-say list — bilingual answering for law firms, including the practice areas where it matters most.

Confidentiality

Calls are handled by named receptionists working to your script, under confidentiality obligations, and call records live in your portal with access controlled by you. What we hold, who can see it and how long it’s kept is written out on our security page rather than summarized in a badge.

Price

One answered call = one billable call, whatever we do on it: intake questions, screening and a live transfer all belong to that one call. Plans from $119 to $649; firms with long intake forms are Custom Operations. Full pricing.

Questions people ask

What is a legal answering service?

A legal answering service answers a law firm's phone calls and performs new matter intake to the firm's own script: capturing the facts, the jurisdiction and the parties involved, screening against the firm's criteria, and escalating urgent calls. It does not provide legal advice.

Do you do conflict checks?

We capture the information a conflict check needs — the names of every party the caller mentions — on the first call, so the firm can run the check before returning it. The check itself stays with the firm.

Will you quote fees to callers?

No. We answer procedural questions about the firm and refer anything about fees or case value to an attorney. If your firm publishes a consultation fee, we state that figure and nothing beyond it.

Do you answer after hours for law firms?

Yes, 24/7/365. A large share of first calls to law firms arrive in the evening, at weekends, or immediately after the incident that prompted them.

Can you handle intake in Spanish?

Yes, by the same receptionist on the same number, with the same script and restrictions.
